Linda’s 8-Week E-course on Breaking into Magazines - Next Session Starts Monday, September 22, 2008
If you want to write for magazines but don’t know how to get started — or if you need some motivation to get you going — this course is for you. In eight weekly lessons, I’ll walk you through:
People Say...
I got three assignments as a direct result of Linda’s e-course. I can’t say enough good things about Linda or this class. She’s so smart, savvy, sassy, and ... what other “s” words can I use? ... how about super-special. And she can see into the future! Really, sometimes she called assignments before I saw them coming, which was encouraging, and helped me keep going.
—Jebra Turner
At the very end of 2006, I decided to take one of your courses with hopes of starting a freelance career. In January 2007, I bought Query Letters That Rocked. I completely changed the way I did things...the first story I sold this year was to USA Today!
Since then, I have sold stories to The New York Times, American Cheerleader, Wondertime, American Baby, Discover, Yoga Journal, Spirituality & Health, Web MD, Mother Jones, Fit Pregnancy, Delicious Living and Plenty. I’m now having people come to me-- have signed on to do some niche blogging and just accepted a trade article today.
—Rachel Mosteller
- Coming up with a salable idea
- Finding markets that would be interested in your idea
- Finding the right editors to send your idea to
- Interviewing people for the query letter (the proposal that sells the editor on your idea and yourself as a writer)
- Writing a winning query letter
- Getting your query out the door!
Each lesson includes an assignment. You can do much of the assignments after work, during your lunch break, on weekends — whenever YOU have the time. The best part is, you can use the lessons you learn in this course over and over again. The more queries you write and send, the better the chances that you’ll get published!
The basic course includes eight weekly lessons and the premium course includes personalized e-mail support as well (I set aside Wednesdays and Fridays to answer e-mails). I am here to guide you through the program and to answer any questions you might have.
For more details on how the course works, the course schedule, and my teaching philosophy, please download and read the E-Course FAQ (PDF format).
Why Get Published?
I have to tell you: Working at home as a writer is one sweet deal. I have a ten-second commute from my bed to my office, I set my own schedule, I make enough money to live very comfortably, my work is fun and mentally stimulating, and I get the thrill of knowing that thousands — even millions — of people are seeing my name in print every month. I work fewer than 40 hours per week and spend the rest of my time pursuing hobbies, doing volunteer work, traveling, reading, and hanging out with my friends.
I got all this without any special education or training — and if I can do it, you probably can, too.
